Regional Laboratory: Auckland Region Laboratory Providers

“To operate a highly valued trusted and responsive Laboratory service that demonstrates improved health outcomes for the people of Auckland”

Laboratory services in the Auckland region are provided by several providers. Each of the DHBs has its own hospital laboratories that predominantly provide laboratory services to clinicians working in each of the hospitals. There are two providers of laboratory service for clinicians working in general practice, private practice, private hospitals and other settings in the community.

For more information on the DHB laboratory services see:

Labtests Auckland provide all services for general practitioners, midwives and for tests requested by your DHB clinician when you are seen as an outpatient. For more information on Labtests and the location of their collection rooms and opening hours see http://www.labtests.co.nz/

TestSafe

TestSafe is a tool to enable the sharing of necessary patient information with other health providers assists the delivery of coordinated, integrated services and improves the quality and safety of health care delivery throughout the health system.

In addition to reporting test results to the test orderer, DHB funded test results in the Auckland region are now forwarded to TestSafe. TestSafe keeps test results in a secure on-line database which can be accessed by health providers involved in a patient’s care, unless the patient makes a request to prevent the sharing of this information.

Authorised Community Laboratories can access TestSafe to assist in responding to requests for information from community based healthcare providers such as GPs and Specialists. DHB based clinical staff can access results if the patient attends a hospital emergency department or outpatient clinic or is admitted as an inpatient. Over time, GP Practices, and then other healthcare providers, will have the option of on-line access to TestSafe.

For more information, please view TestSafe.
